The 1917 Clipperton Island tragedy

During the Mexican Revolution of the early 20th century, settlers on the atoll of Clipperton Island were abandoned by resupply ships, and left to fend for themselves. Within two years, all but one of the men had died. This last man set himself up as "king" and embarked on a reign of terror over the surviving women and children that only ended when one of the women killed him.
